Amos is so sure of the coming judgment that he gives a lament over Israel of grief. He gives a call to Israel tat whatever God says or does Israel will not listen and warns then of the dark days to come. He even tells them that God hate them for their worthless effort to rituals instead of a relationship. Basically saying not to bother to worship God if you are going to oppress your fellowman.
With Israel found guilty, Amos see their future which is judgment by locust, fire. The king demands that Amos stop preaching because he thinks he is a conspirator. which leads to another vision from Amos showing a basket of fruit which means that the time is ripe for Gods judgment on Israel. He ends with us knowing that even though God will destroy them, there will be some that will survive as to rebuild the nation of Israel.
There is no way to resist God and tell him no to anything, As he will permit us to sin the consequences are and can be severe. However, hope of a wonderful future from God should sustain us when we are suffering.
