Joash now is king and he decides to repair the temple by using the money from the census, personal vows etc. Joash's me did not get going on this project right away but once they did they acted with complete honesty and never stole the money they collected so they could pay the workers to rebuilt and repair the temple. Now once the priest who is in charge dies Joash decides to abandon the his project and take up paganism. Why? It's like I want to go back in time and give him a slap across the face or something.
Now Joash was a smart man. When king Hazael was starting to come upon Judah, Joash decided to take a bunch of gold objects etc and send them tot he king to get him to stop advancing towards Judah. Did it work? Yup! Then Elisha give a few bits of instructions here and dies. It just seemed weird how that was added in here.
Once he starts this he ends up dieing at the hands of his officials and his son, Jehoahaz, takes over which is not a great thing because he did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Bummer!! You know it seems to me that even when history takes a unforeseen direction and may seem a bit uncertain, we can still have confidences in knowing that God is here watching over us and is in 100% control of everything.
