God Convenant with Abram

Gen 15:1-3 "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." Wow to me those are strong words. I am your shield and reward. Isn't that so true even still today? When you are in deep need all we have to do is pull up the word of God in our brains and it can shield us form the worst of enemies. Just when you think all is despair, God comes through and pulls you out of the pit. He also rewards us for the things we do. Think about it. Isn't it a reward that you have food on your table right now. How about that computer you are working on. What about the ability to see. These are all things we never think of as a rewards, but I think they are. In a short time we will be going over Job and you will see just how much of a reward these things are.

This is true today as it was back then with Sarai and Abram. God made His covenant with Abram and they made their agreement by cutting the heifer, goat and ram in half (as they did in those days each party would walk in-between the cut pieces as to say this will be done to my herd if this covenant is to be broken). But God told Abram to keep his covenant with Him by being circumcised at 99 years old (ouch) as well as every male in his family and servants etc. And he does it. He promised that Abram would have many descendants yet still Abram and Sarai thought they had to take it into their hands to fulfill the covenant. Even though God said He would take care of it.

because of their lack of trust you now have Hagar who is showing off to everyone and making Sarai feel bad. However, God intervenes once again and talks to Hagar through His angels. God came through again as promised and gave Abraham and Sarah a son in their old age and shielded them from what could have been a potentially bad situation with Hagar and Ishmael by rewarding them with the son Isaac.

He is our shield and our reward!
