Jacob gets lied to. Jacobs does as his mom states and leaves to go to where her family is so that he will not be killed by his brother. He meets up with Laban, strikes a deal to marry his love, Rachel and ends up Laban gives him Leah. Strikes another deal for Rachel and finally gets to marry her. But not without many many years of payment. Laban's deception must have reminded Jacob of his own deception with his brother and father with forced him to leave towards Haran. Then there still is not harmony in this poor family. Now Rachel and Leah are battling for babies. Leah, Rachel, Zilpah and Bilha all give him 12 children. And thus starts the 12 tribes of Jacob.
We need to remember that when other people are against us and try to victimize us, we have to trust in God. If our spouses abuse us, if creditors harass us, if friends spread rumors of us, if we feel the whole world is down on us, it does not matter. We must always turn to God. He is the One and only that is there through the thick and thin of it. Family and friends are there too, but sometimes they can be the cause of the stresses. But God will NEVER let us down. Sometimes we may even need to leave, but NEVER leave God.
I see this family doing that over and over and over again! No matter how hard and stressed and down they get they NEVER turn away from the One who made them and made the covenant with them. As we should do the same.
