Ishmael, Isaac, Esau and Jacob

After Abraham dies Ishmael and Isaac make amends for a bit to be able to bury their father. it seems to me that even though there is animosity between them they still feel somewhat of a tie due to the fact that a marriage takes place between the two families later on.

What I find funny is later after Isaac has Esau and Jacob he does exactly what his father Abraham did earlier with the King. He Lies about Rebekah being his sister and not his wife. When the King finds out he makes a law that nobody is to hurt them. Sound familiar? And then the Kings send them on their way. Wow, like father like son.

Then the family lies continue on into Esau and Jacob. Jacob cons Esau out of his birthright for food. OK, so Esau was not so smart and probably a little glutton to think of food being more important then his birthright. I guess you could say that he could not see beyond the moment into the future. How many times do we do that. Think about the mindless spending we all do. That is a great example of the very same thing Esau did.

I guess the one thing I really picked up on today's lesson is the fact that it is NOT necessary to lie or cheat to obtain the blessings that God promises to us. We just need to be patient and WAIT! He will ALWAYS come through for us!

Well, I am off to church.
